From the age of six Ruth helped out in the kitchen and it wasn’t long before she could whip up a trifle or a Zablione to perfection.
Ruth moved on to study a photography degree before working for one of the largest PR agencies of the time. During her employment, she wrote the diary and restaurant pages for TV Times – Hong Kong, and worked in project management for Ericson’s and Atkins Global.
After starting her own family, Ruth wanted a career that was home-based to benefit her children. She had always loved food so trained as a Food and Nutrition teacher.
During her teaching career, Ruth was known for her passion and enthusiasm and headed up two departments where she created vibrant schemes of work based on her beliefs:
With a 100% pass rate and exceptionally high practical marks, Ruth was commissioned to deliver a series of skill-based videos by a leading exam board. She remains part of the school examination process today.
In 2019, Ruth won Gold at the World Bread Awards following a positive response to her bakery and cooking school. She is also a proactive member and active supporter of Bread Angels, Real Bread Campaign and Local Food Britain. Most recently, Ruth has taken the role of Cookery Editor at Yours Magazine.
Set in sight of the North Downs in the picturesque village of Brockham, Ruth’s Little Kitchen HQ is a chocolate-box, traditional tile hung cottage.
The kitchen is only a 10 minute drive from Dorking station and courses include transport to and from the station if required. Trains run from Waterloo and Victoria Station taking approx. 55 mins. We can also include a 45 minute walk as part of the course, providing stunning views of the North Down hills, the Hamilton Estate and St Michaels Church in Betchworth (the first church in Four Weddings and a Funeral). Ruth currently undertakes a number of workshops and schemes within schools and universities. She is also available for demonstrations in all
aspects of cookery for the wider community including corporates and adults.
Previous community sessions include:
in primary and secondary schools and for those in supported living
Groups run on a monthly basis aimed at bringing people together.
For children aged 14 years+, Ruth offers the scheme for those looking to achieve Bronze, Silver or Gold.
As a qualified Food and Nutrition teacher, healthy eating and the importance of balance
underpins all the lessons. Courses are available online via Zoom and in person.

The feedback on Ruth’s courses and outreach work has always been extremely positive.
Ruth is always open to new ideas and would love to hear from press, media,

Ruth believes in supporting small businesses and encouraging individuals of all ages to enjoy cooking.
Her response to COVID-19 was to set up live workshops via social media. Instinctively, she wanted to reach out to the community and provide something positive for both children and adults to enjoy together during this time.
